Sell a course and choose who can take it

Keep a course free, include it in your plans or sell it for a one-time price, and see what your students get.

Every course can be free, part of your membership plans, sold on its own, or a mix. Here's how to set it up and what your students get once they're in.

💡 Quick answer: click Courses in the left sidebar and open your course. In the course builder, click the access pill next to the course title. Who can take this course? opens, and you pick plans, a price or free.

🔒 Choose who can take it

Option	Who gets in
Membership plans	Subscribers on the plans you pick, for as long as their subscription is active
Public	Everyone, no plan and no payment
Pay to unlock	Anyone who pays your one-time price, with lifetime access to this course

You can combine plans and a price: your members take the course as part of their plan, and anyone else can buy it on its own. Press Save settings and the pill updates right away.

⚠️ Heads up: selling a course on its own needs your payouts set up first. The price field shows the minimum price for your currency.

💡 Give people a taste

Free preview lessons: in the course outline, open a lesson's ⋯ menu and choose Make free preview. Anyone can open it, even without access.
Your course page is always visible: the cover, trailer, description and the list of lessons. Locked lessons show their titles, never their content.
Visitors see Unlock this course with your price, or which plan includes it. Buyers sign in, pay, and the course opens straight away.

💳 Getting paid

Course sales go straight to your Stripe account, like your other sales. Your AloPortal plan's fee applies: 15% of sales on the free trial, 4% on Basic and 2% on Pro. The full breakdown is in Payouts and fees explained.

📊 What your students get

A progress tracker on the course page, with lessons done, quizzes passed, time left and a learning streak.
Automatic progress: a written lesson counts as done when they reach the end, and a video lesson once they've watched most of it. Complete and continue takes them to the next lesson.
Private notes and bookmarks on every lesson. You can't see their notes.
A certificate when they finish, if you turn certificates on, and the option to leave a star review.

❓ Questions

Can I give someone access for free?

Yes. In the course builder, open the ⋯ menu at the top, choose Students and click Invite. Enter their AloPortal username and they get full access without paying.

If I change the price or plans later, do buyers lose access?

No. Anyone who bought the course keeps it. Plan members keep access while they're on a plan that includes the course.

What happens if I refund a purchase?

That person's access to the course ends. Their progress is kept in case they come back.

Can I buy my own course to test checkout?

No. You always have full access to your own courses. Use the Visitor preview in the builder to see what buyers see.
