Selling and getting paid

Payouts and fees explained

What AloPortal and Stripe take from a sale, when you get paid, and what happens on a refund or dispute.

Here's how money moves from a fan's card to your bank, what each fee is, and what happens when a sale is refunded or disputed.

✨ Quick answer: AloPortal takes one fee per sale (15% on the free trial, 4% on Basic, 2% on Pro). Stripe charges its processing fee to your own Stripe account. Everything else is yours, and Stripe pays it to your bank.

πŸ’³ Where your money goes

Every sale is charged straight to your own Stripe account. You're the seller, so the money is yours from the moment a fan pays. AloPortal never holds it.

Stripe sends your available balance to your bank automatically, on its usual schedule for your country. New sales take a few days to clear first. To see your balance, payout schedule and past payouts, switch to the Creator side (the Creator / Member switch is at the bottom of the left sidebar), click Payouts in the sidebar and open the Overview tab. On a phone, tap the menu at the top-left first.

The platform fee is the only thing AloPortal takes from a sale, and it comes off automatically. AloPortal doesn't add anything to Stripe's fees. The exact fees on each payment show in Payouts β†’ Transactions, and the plan editor shows an estimate of what you'll keep before you publish a price.

βœ… Good to know: we'll give you at least 30 days' notice by email before we change the platform fee.

↩️ Refunds

  • Sales aren't refunded by default. You can refund any payment yourself from Payouts β†’ Transactions.

  • The fan gets the full amount back, from your Stripe balance.

  • Stripe keeps its processing fee, and AloPortal's platform fee isn't returned. That's standard on Stripe and on creator platforms.

  • If the sale came through one of your affiliates, their commission is reversed and comes back to you.

βš–οΈ Disputes (chargebacks)

A dispute is when a fan asks their bank to reverse a payment. The bank decides. While it's open, Stripe holds the amount from your balance and gives it back if you win. Stripe charges its dispute fee to your Stripe account, and AloPortal's fee on the sale isn't returned.

Disputes show up as a banner in Payouts, and you can respond from Payouts β†’ Transactions before the deadline Stripe shows. To help your case, we save a draft response with a record of what the fan bought and accessed, and the terms they accepted at checkout. Review it, add anything you have, and submit it yourself. The article Refunds and disputes walks through the steps.

⚠️ Heads up: if you get an inquiry rather than a dispute, answer it quickly. An inquiry that's settled early doesn't turn into a dispute or carry a dispute fee.

πŸ”’ Identity check

Once your earnings pass a set amount, we ask you to verify your identity with a photo ID and a selfie, through Stripe. Payouts wait until it's done. You only do it once.

🧾 Taxes

You're the seller, so sales tax, VAT or GST on your sales is yours to handle, and your earnings are your income. You can have Stripe calculate and collect sales tax at checkout: on the Creator side, click Settings in the left sidebar, then the Sales tax tab. Your tax forms, such as a US 1099-K where one applies, are on the Tax & documents tab of the same page. AloPortal doesn't file taxes for you.

🀝 Affiliates and ambassadors

  • If you run an affiliate program, the commission you set comes out of your share of referred sales. Tips never pay commission.

  • If an ambassador referred you to AloPortal, AloPortal pays their reward. It never reduces your earnings.

❓ Questions

Your payout is your sales minus AloPortal's fee, Stripe's fees and any refunds or disputes. Payouts shows each of these.

A refund or a lost dispute took out more than your balance held at that moment. That can happen early on, because the fees on the original sale are not returned. Payouts shows the amount in an amber box. Stripe takes it from your next sales first. If it stays below zero, Stripe may take it from your bank account. Payouts start again once your balance is above zero. Refunded sales still show in your earnings, so you can see where the money went.

Stripe sets the payout schedule for your country. Click Manage payout details in Payouts to see your options in Stripe.

Yes. Tips are treated like any other sale.
